LLewellyns Complete Book of the Tarot by Anthony Luis Buy the Book!

Complete Book of Tarot: Astrology: Air of Fire. (Note the airy backdrop of blue sky, clouds, and mountain peaks in the distance. In the foreground, the hot dry dessert becomes a setting for the throne capped with the head of a lion. The salamander at the King’s feet is associated in mythology with Fire; the Central European “fire salamander” has fiery golden-yellow markings on its back.)

Complete Book of Tarot: As a second illustration, consider the Two of Cups, which was the first card to which the counting method guided us from the querent’s significator, the Knight of Wands. In this spread, the Two of Cups (Water, cold + wet) lies between a Cup (Water, cold + wet) and a Sword (Air, hot + wet). The “cold” of the Cup on its left cancels the “hot” of the Sword on its right, leaving an extra amount of the quality of “wet” to enhance the already “wet” property of the Two of Cups. Thus, we might expect the Knight of Wands to go with the “wet” flow and lose himself in the relationship suggested by the “wetter” Two of Cups.

Complete Book of Tarot: The other part of the proposed definition states that divination attempts to discern occult information as though by supernatural means. Not infrequently, the knowledge gained during a tarot reading feels eerily as if it were a form of extra-ordinary knowing or as if it had a supernatural origin. Various dictionaries define divination as an inspired guess (where does the inspiration come from?), a presentiment, an intuitive perception, a prophecy, an instinctive foresight, or simply as the interpretation of signs and omens.
